Watch the Tenochtitlan online guitar lesson by Stephen Bennett from Harp Guitar Repertoire
This tune very literally sprang into being after reading some of the accounts of the first encounters between the Spanish conquistadors and the Aztecs. From the description of the great city of Tenochtitlan given by the Spaniards themselves, it had to have been an amazing place. They considered it perhaps the most beautiful city in the world. And then they set out to destroy it.
Rarely do my tunes spring forth so fully formed as this one. It was born of pure emotion, I think and very clearly came through me. Not from me, only through me.
Read a bit of American Holocaust by David Stannard and you'll be thoroughly depressed like I was. Then sit down with your harp guitar and play this tune.
