This is most certainly a different kind of feel than O'Carolan might have played these tunes. I've got almost a jazz waltz kind of feel. Hey, I like it.

As I listen to this on playback some time later, I am thinking that some of the overtones I'm hearing might be due to the strings I was using when I was filming. I tried some silk and steel instead of the phosphor bronze I generally use.

All that aside, check out what I do at about 11 seconds in. I'm bringing the open 3rd and 4th (G and D) strings in just ahead of the sub-bass B. The G is the melody. The B lands right smack on beat one, the melody G and the harmony D just ahead of the beat. I do this all the time. Repeat, I do this all the time. It is a very useful principle to remember: bring the melody in just ahead of the beat. Since I often want the bass note on the beat anyway, two additional things are often accomplished. One is that melodically, it's often pleasing to my ear to be just ahead of the beat. Especially if the beat is going to be clearly defined by something solid landing on it - like a bass note. Secondly, when you potentially have really wide stretches between upper string melody notes and sub-bass low notes - you can avoid having to make these stretches by offsetting the arrival of the two parts (melody and bass). It's physically easier and musically pleasing. Hmm, I like this.
