Watch the Col De Lauteret online guitar lesson by Stephen Bennett from Fingerstyle Finesse

This tune was inspired by a drive with my family in the French Alps. Col De Lauteret is the name of a particular pass through the mountains.
The capo goes at the 2nd fret but only covers the top 5 strings, leaving the 6th string open. I do this on a number of my tunes. A banjo capo works great because it's just the right size. Also, a capo with a low profile is a better idea than one that sticks way out from the neck.
I picked this tune because it has a great drive (no pun intended!). It's a bit of a trick to make sure the melody sings out, the bass line is clear and a sense of backbeat (that emphasis on beats 2 and 4) is strongly maintained.
Do get that first phrase into your fingers before you go on.
