Watch the Cowboy's Dream: 9 online guitar lesson by Tommy Emmanuel from Certified Gems, Vol. 1
Chet Atkins recorded a song in the 60's called Kentucky. I thought it was a beautiful, beautiful song. I never did play it on stage but I wanted to write myself a song that had a similar kind of feeling to it, a similar kind of emotion, and so I wrote Cowboy's Dream.
Cowboy's Dream is a blending of styles. It's kind of an Appalachian, almost Bluegrass style sound, mixed with Hawaiian influences. I've loved Hawaiian music all my life, so I just kind of wrote this little piece from those inspirations. And also the title, Cowboy's Dream is the perfect title for the song. You can imagine a guy who's been out driving the herd for three weeks out in the middle of Arizona or somewhere like that and he's laying there beside the campfire dreaming of a beach and a cold beer in Hawaii. So I just thought that was the perfect blend, this cowboy who wants to go to Hawaii - the Cowboy's Dream!
The song is in the normal guitar tuning except that the A string is tuned down to G and the E string is tuned down to D. I have a capo on the second fret.
