Watch the Use a Harmonic Capo online guitar lesson by Vicki Genfan from Acoustic Rhythm Survival Guide
First of all, here's the website for Bob Kilgore and his Harmonic Capo
! Go listen to him play with it!!!
When I first met Bob and heard him play with this thing on his guitar, I couldn't believe what I was hearing! It actually defies the physics of guitar playing. And with my love for the harmonics to start with, I was just in heaven...
So – it takes a little bit of patience to get the capo situated on the strings correctly. For this reason, I try to use it at the very beginning of my set so I don't have to 'fiddle' around with it on stage.
Once it's on, it stays in place well – as long as you don't knock it off when you grab the guitar (I noticed that I tend to pick up my guitar right around where the neck meets the body which is close to the 12th fret on my guitar – so I was always knocking it off!
Revisit what you played in the 'Hammer on and Pull off' section, because that's what you're going to want to do with this capo on. Go for it – explore – see where the sounds lead YOU... and let me know!NOTE:
As of the time I'm writing this, I've just finished an arrangement of Bob Dylan's song, 'All Along the Watchtower' that uses the Harmonic Capo. If it's not up on Youtube yet or my website, I'm sure it will be soon – so check it out, it's very cool!
