Watch the Nine White Kites online guitar lesson by Peppino D'Agostino from Acoustic Poetica

When I was younger I used to write music together with other friends and I remember we would challenge each other and compete for who wrote the best thing! The material we wrote at that point, I have to say, was quite harmless and predictable..but anyone has to start somewhere right? Nowadays it usually takes me anything from 5 months to 30 years to finish a composition! Typically I have a short embryonic idea, which I always make sure to record or write down for the purpose of remembering it. Afterward I revisit these initial sketches and expand them from time to time until they're finally done. Writing music for me is exciting, challenging, frustrating and rewarding. "Nine White Kites" is an exception to my usual writing routine described above. I wrote this composition in only in 2 days inspired by an unusual open tuning that I've learned from one of my former students! Sometimes people ask me about the unusual title and they want an explanation for it. Here it is: I wanted to dedicate this tune to a person that is very important to me and I did it by doing the anagram of his name. The result of that anagram is how I came up with this title. Later on it occurred to me that kites are the symbol of freedom, white is the sum of all the colors and in Greek mythology there are 9 Muses! Nice huh?
