Watch the Left Hand Only online guitar lesson by Peppino D'Agostino from Acoustic Poetica

I learned how to incorporate percussion in my playing in the early 70s, while living in Italy. I like to add percussive sounds in addition to the three fundamental music elements of Melody, Rhythm and Harmony. It is both challenging and exciting to have all four elements together because it really expands the possibilities of the acoustic guitar. The instrument really becomes a mini orchestra of sounds!

In order to play percussive sounds with the right-hand, we have to be able to play bass lines, chords and melodies just with the left hand. As a consequence the left hand will be strengthen by the exercises that will follow.

The notes on the bass string are played by the left hand only with a technique based on Pull-off and Hammer-ons. Please note that when you play the first note (open 6th string) you want to prepare the l.h index finger by touching the string a fraction of a second before you pull it.
