Watch the All Choked Up online guitar lesson by Rich Maloof from 50 Acoustic Guitar Licks You MUST Know

Add syncopation to a strum with muted strums -- sometimes called "choked strokes" -- as you play. It makes for great dynamic differentiations, too, when strums are alternately strummed and muted. You'll get the most of out choked chords on an acoustic if you use a light-gauge pick, since that bending plastic sounds awfully cool scratching away at the steel strings.
