Watch the Create a Bridge online guitar lesson by Ravi from 1-2-3 Songwriting
For the sake of this exercise, let's write a bridge that is a complete departure from the rest of the song - something we're going to force into it. Lyrically I've pretty much said what I have to say. So, I'm going to add a big solo section bridge like I did with the last song except that it's going to be a section with chords that are entirely different from everything else in the song, and I'm going to cycle through a couple of new keys as well. This may not be what is best for your song, but try it and see. You might ultimately choose a different process for writing the bridge that you end up with, or maybe you don't want a bridge at all. But for now, write something totally unexpected and force it in there. See if you can make it work by using a technique to set it up and get out of it - perhaps a break or some kind or a keyless (chromatic) movement. For my song, this works well because the story is about something unstable and unpredictable. As always, try to make your music consistant with your lyrical meaning.
