TWANG U

TWANG U is the first quick-learning system for twang guitar to employ a "cognitive" format, which adapts itself as well to beginners as it does for advanced players. Eight semesters of top-notch instruction cover every style, technique and nuance of twang  -- the definitive blend of blues, country, rock and jazz guitar. This course of study is unlike anything you've ever seen. Students may cherry-pick their starting point. You don't need to read music. You don't need to learn theory. Each semester includes over 2 hours of audio instruction, 40-60 hours of practice material, and is formatted in MP3 (audio), PDF (tab) and Power Tab — which allows you to "see" and "hear" tab played out at any tempo in perfect pitch. Semesters are packaged on CD and include an interactive manual and a free full version of Power Tab software.

TWANG U is really all about the instructors and artists behind it. In short, the best in the biz. We're talking Chet Atkins, Happy Traum, Adrian Legg, Lenny Breau, Arlen Roth, the Hellecasters, Rick Payne, Steve Elliot, Jesse Gress, Jim Campilongo, Joe Dalton, Lawrence Silver, Joe Gore, Andy Ellis, Roger Ferguson, Jude Gold, Tom Tribuno, David Hamburger, Bob Balsley, Stacy Phillips, Victor Barclay, Steve Trovato, Ray Detone, Richard Gartner, Arnie Berle, Clint Westwood, Michael Linderoth, Dave Whitehill, Mike Firkins, Jimmy Brown, Askold Buk, Greg Martin, Erik Halbig, John Kieselhorst, Ray Flacke, Randy Clark, James Raimondi, Brad Carlton, Alex Fornari, David Surete, Adam Levy, Doug Coffman, Nono Soderberg, Boomer Casleman, Jim Rathbun and dozens of other top twang pros.

The TWANG U 8-CD course spans 23 modules of study and 150 individual lessons. You'll learn to master Travis picking, strumming, train rhythms, chicken-picking, fingerstyle, country blues, country jazz, whammy bar, pull-offs, hammer-ons, double-stops, open D, open G, rockabilly, flatpicking, squeals, cascades, bagpipe emulation, lapsteel emulation, pedal steel emulation, banjo rolls, harp tones, ringing open strings, bending, double-stop bends, interval skips, cross-picking, fiddle shuffle, bluegrass, slide, texas-style runs, neighboring tones, pluck ’n cluck, honky-tonk, hybrid picking, blues stabs, vibrato and tons of other tricks of the twang trade.

More so than any other style, twang calls for a diverse arsenal of major chops. If you're going to play in this sandbox, you need a lot of the right stuff. So, lets get down to some nitty gritty -- this semester's packed with pro essentials.

Module 1:  Bag of Tricks - Fiddle shuffles, twangy bends, bluegrass riffs, texas rhythms and a whole kit ’n caboodle of cool tricks and picks.

Module 2: Git Along - Dig in your spurs and lets put a few of those new twang chopsto work.  Module 3: Twang Thangs - Pump up your twang vocabulary with fifty licks that you can twist and turn into 200 variations.
Every true twanger knows that upbeat country beats and blazin' guitar work gave birth to rock and roll. Jumping, jiving rockabilly guitar always, always gets the house rocking and the feet moving. Some call it country, some call it rock, and some call it jazz. They're all correct.

Module 1: Rockabilly School - These fleet-fingered techniques will take your fingers to places they've never been but won't ever want to return from.

Module 2: Hotshots - Wanna hear it done right? Learn from the cats who defined the style. Cliff Gallup, Brian Setzer and James Burton -- your rockabilly forefathers.

Module 3: Rock On Y'all - Explore rockabilly and country roots in this batch of lessons from the likes of Elvis, Hendrix, Eagles, and Led Zeppelin. Yes, even Jimi and Zep owed a thang or two to twang. And what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Welcome to the hallowed halls of the Twang Player's Club. Study now with the legends of yesterday, today and tomorrow. Watson, Grissom, Atkins, Lee, Olander and a bunch of their buds share priceless insight.

Module 1: Gurus - Featuring choice picks from Guitar Player’s “Guest Guru” column, we visit with Chet Atkins, Albert Lee, Robben Ford and other wise men from the mountaintop.

Module 2: Hall Of Greats - Doc Watson, Richard Thompson, Jimmy Bryant, Jimmy Olander, Brent Mason are just a few of the great wise men of twang.

Module 3: Whippersnappers - Fresh blood is what keeps twang hot and happening. Quick-draw guitar slingers Pete Anderson, Tony Rice,Bryan Sutton and many more keep the magic alive and well.
The trick and lick bag overflows with finger magic. Better eat your Wheaties because you're going to need them this semester. You'll take on top notch twang fingerpicking, major doublestop chops and oh so sweet percussive plucking.

Module 1: Fingerpickin’ Good - Happy Traum and Chet Atkins. Need we say more?

Module 2: Double Stuff - Double your pleasure with a whole new bag of fresh doublestop chops.
Module 3: Chicken Pop - Learn the pulls, pops and right-hand clucks at the very heart of chicken-picking.
Hell Yes! This semester delivers two hours of studio time with the world’s finest trio of Tele masters: Will Ray, John Jorgenson and Jerry Donahue. Got an axe to grind? Well, get ready to wear it down to the truss. No one does it or teaches it better than the Hellecasters.

Module 1: John Jorgenson -
Go one-on-one with John as he demystifies Django jazz along with many of his own extraordinary techniques.

Module 2: Jerry Donahue -
Put that extra kick into your playing with these open-string pulls and hammers taught and demonstrated by master Jerry.
Module 3: Will Ray - Where there’s a Will, there’s a way lit by brilliant chops and harmony. Will takes you deep into the twangy waters of future country.

Module 4: Everybody Now - A hellacious batch of lessons penned, performed and presented by the inimitable Hellecasters.

Not too much sweeter to the ear than lap steel. In this semester, you'll learn how to emulate that sweetness on your good ole six string. Once you get the smile off your face, you'll pick up some open string and cascade tricks.

Module 1: Lap Steel - Do it standing up. You'll be surprised how easy it is and how much you enjoy it. Add topsy-turvy licks, languid bends and lush chords to your kit.

Module 2: Open Season - If you're going to call yourself a twanger, then you've got to know when to bust it out wide open.  Module 3: Cascades - Head-turners in any setting, pulling off killer cascades helps set masters like Chet Atkins apart from we mere mortals.
Blues and Twang go together like soup and sandwich. You can pull out your entire twang kit in any blues setting. This semester focuses on getting your blues thang together. And while you're at it, take some guidance from monster players Danny Gatton and Roy Buchanan.

Module 1: Blues Clues - Bring it on home with Lead Belly’s Sukey Jump, Ry Cooder’s smoky slide and a truck load of blues thangs you will want to use.

Module 2: Two Monsters - The staggering, outsized techniques of Danny Gatton and Roy Buchanan will continue to amaze generations to come. Pick up a few of their tricks.

Put your hands together. We've got twanging for your left and
tuning for the right.
If you've worked hard on your core twang techniques, then this semester
will be a well-deserved treat for you. Enjoy!

Module 1: Hot Dang Twang - Nothing but fun in this great collection of licks, weird tricks and unorthodox techniques well-applied to twang guitar. Check out Richard Thompson’s bagpipe trick!

A retuned, detuned or alternate tuned guitar opens up tons of new and interesting sounding possibilities.
