The advanced picking patterns should be used effectively yet cautiously. I have heard many times when a player attempts a ‘cool lick’ and things just sound kind of fumbly. Be sure to practice these more advanced patterns very slowly with a metronome to be absolutely certain of the timing. You never want to have those hiccups in the middle of a piece.
