This simple open position chord rhythm is something you usually hear from the acoustic guitar. In smaller bands you may not have the luxury of carrying the other player. This is a typical bluegrass style rhythm guitar part. With the presence of a strong bass player, you may want to omit the bass notes that are played on beats one and three. Many rhythm guitar parts are variations of this example.
