 George “Mr.Boards” Piburn was first exposed to steel guitars in 1967 at local music stores in Oklahoma City area. In the early 1970’s he went to see Asleep At The Wheel. The opening act was made up of members of the original Texas Playboys. Gene Crownover played a flat steel better than anyone he’d ever heard before and left a lasting impression.

He bought his first steel in 1978 and began attending the Jeffran College of Pedal Steel Guitar in Nashville in 1980. Over 20 graduations resulted in a master’s degree and hundreds of studio sessions and television appearances followed.

George “Mr.Boards” Piburn made his first Lap Steel Guitar and began advanced studies in the C6th tuning in 1990. In 2001 he studied in the Hawaiian Institute of Steel guitar and received a master’s credential for teaching in the “Hawaiian Way” on the mainland and the island of Maui.

From 1999 to 2002 he developed and released instructional DVDs for playing C6th Lap Steel Guitar. GeorgeBoards™ DVDs and Lap Steel Guitars have enhanced the lives of musicians in all 50 states and over 20 countries around the world.
