One For The Money - Solo: Part One
. Author: Mark Stefani
. Category: Blues, Jazz/Fusion
. Description: Ever wonder what it takes to play a solid, jazz guitar solo over swing blues changes? Scales? No. Arpeggios? Not really. What it takes is "real world" language, from transcribing and imitating the legends of jazz, including guitarists like Wes Montgomery, George Benson, and Hank Garland, plus numerous non-guitar influences, like Oscar Peterson (piano), Charlie Parker (sax), Miles Davis (trumpet), and many other masters of the style.
"Money Solo" - Part One is a 12-bar, first chorus transcription of an early jazz guitar, swing blues solo I recorded on "One for the Money" ('86). The audio file includes the solo at full tempo, a half-speed version, plus a bonus jam track. Standard notation and tablature. Have fun!
Note: This lesson contains licks and concepts from the "Swing
Blues: Doorway to Jazz" wing of Vision Music's interactive
"Lessons
by Mail" program.
