CURRICULUM DESCRIPTION:
Guitar Babylon - Frustrated pentatonic players should join! In over 20+ years of teaching I have encountered a recurring theme amongst guitarists where their playing reaches a plateau and they become frustrated.
This class will help you break free of the pentatonic prison, blurring the lines between musical genres. We will explore key ingredients of jazz, blues, funk, fusion and rock with chord/rhythm studies, improvisation techniques, an examination of music theory/composition and embrace ways to think outside the box. I'll help you improve your chord vocabulary with hip chord voicings and spice up your improvisation skills by learning concepts such as outside playing, utilizing chord tones and creative ideas to use familiar scales in exciting new ways. Other facets of the classroom include unique applications of the melodic minor scale, arpeggio workouts, modal studies and a thorough examination of phrasing - the essential component to making your solos melodic and memorable.
We'll also cover practical tips on guitar tone and some advice on the music business ensure this class will make you a well-rounded musician and inspire you with enough new ideas to be confident to play whatever style you choose. Whether you've been playing guitar for many years or just have a few open chords under your fingers I'm confident I can open up the possibilities of the instrument for you. I'm as passionate about music and the guitar today as I was when I first fell in love with the instrument as a teenager and I'm thrilled to be able to share my ideas with you!
