CURRICULUM DESCRIPTION:

If youre interested in expanding your repertoire of crowd-pleasing blues tunes, pumping up your bag of killer blues licks, honing your technique, and generally prepping yourself to jump on stage and hold your own at any blues jam or gig -- youve just struck gold!

They call me Red and I've been playing the blues on stages in juke joints, gin mills, barrooms, festivals, concerts, gas stations, back yards and even blues cruise ships for over three decades now, across a good portion of the planet.

My classroom is focused solely on teaching you all of the rhythm and lead parts for a wide variety of blues tunes without getting bogged down with a lot of theory, exercises or technical explanations. Not that any of that is a bad thing, its just that a lot of my students are just interested in learning tunes, cool blues moves and a few techniques to help make their solos and improvisations distinctive and soulful. And thats just what well do here in The Boogie Shack!

For each tune in the classroom, Ive prepared a rhythm track for us to work with. Ill demonstrate both the rhythm and lead parts and then break each down so you can pick up the moves and nuances of the tune and improvisations. BUT this is NOT about learning my moves note-for-note and so I'll be giving you several options for both the rhythm and lead parts so you can create your own style and sound.

Jimi Hendrix said, Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel". So, well work on feeling and hearing the blues, not just playing them!

My main goal is to help you learn how to let your ears be your guide so that you can learn songs on the fly and feel confident going into any jam session or taking any last-minute fill-in blues gig. Yes, you can do this! Spicy chords, hot licks, solo improvisation, technique, good tone, emotional expression and letting your ears be your guide are the key areas that well be working on together. And well cut through all of the fat, and get right into to learning and playing songs you can jam and gig with!

I'll work with you every step of the way; I'll assess your present skills and objectives, your available practice time and customize a lesson plan and practice regimen specifically for you!

I'll review your assignments, monitor your progress, give you feedback, answer questions, and update your lesson plan as needed to suit your learning desires. Well communicate privately using the video, audio and text messaging tools in the Guitar Sherpa classroom but youll also be able to interact with other students in the Boogie Shack to further enhance your learning experience.

So grab that guitar and lets play us some down home blues!
