Ex Toto member. Even Glen Campbell (who is a GREAT guitarist) said he was the best he had ever seen.

Toto is just one of Steve Lukather's many accomplishments. During the 80s, this guy was the goto session cat in LA. He, along with couple other notables, played on the majority of the pop songs you heard on the radio. He hassle co-written quite a few pop hits and won a Grammy for writing George Benson's "Turn Your Love Around." He's one of the nicest, most unpretentious people I've ever met. That's a rare find in a bona-fide rock star.

Luke is still with Toto touring overseas (back last month) to sellouts, in addition to doing his own numerous solo/band projects and recording/touring collaborations. He's currently in Europe touring with his own band. He's also on the new Leslie West and Bill Evans' releases, to name but a few. Stay tuned for more G3 news.

If it's not on the artists' (in this case Larry's) or his site, and it's copyright infringement, it comes down. DVD or album material, live concert performances, etc. all apply and YouTube is very good about posting this everywhere. Unless the artist grants a written exception, of course. The artists lose a TON of money due to illegal "sharing," downloads, bootlegs, etc. and many of them pursue this on YouTube and other outlets.

This is why the artists - and companies like TrueFire - work hard to produce high-quality, well-shot videos for folks to buy, study, hopefully learn from and absolutely DIG.

Some of my favorite non-Toto guitarwork by Luke appears on the new Derek Sherinian CD, "Oceana".
Luke is featured on tracks 3, 4 & 8 ("Mulholland," "Euphoria," "Seven Sins").

Do yourself a favor and pick up any or all of Derek Sherinian's catalog. He's had a host of great guest guitarists playing their unbridled best
including Steve Lukather, Allan Holdsworth, Brett Garsed, Zakk Wylde, Tony MacAlpine, Steve Stevens, and Yngwie (J) Malmsteen - many of whom appear in this "Gifted Guitar Players You Should Know" thread.

Listen to Larry Carlton's 'Live at the Blue Note' for some amazing guitar by Steve Lukather. He tears it up with Larry throughout that whole performance. The opening number will curl your hair, and it just gets better through the entire album.

Steve Lukather is one of my faves! He took over the LA studio scene in the 80s when Tommy Tedesco passed it over to him. I recently did 2 of Steve's licks as my lick of the week in my Sherpa classroom!

Perhaps you're confusing Steve Lukather with his Toto bandmate, and heralded session drummer, Jeff Porcaro who died August 5, 1992.

I'm a huge fan of Luke. I first heard him when I saw a Toto concert from the late 80's on UK television. He blew my mind because his use of jazz harmony blended with rock energy was exactly what I was looking for. Sort of like Larry Carlton with the gain turned up a notch!
Anyone wanting to really hear Steve tear it up should check out his solo CD 'Candyman.' In fact all of his solo CD's contain amazing playing and writing as well as many of the Toto albums, sessions and his fusion side projects such as Doves Of Fire, Los Lobotomys and El Grupo. Since moving to L.A. I've had the good fortune to see Luke play a bunch of times and hang with him on occasion. He's a very funny, self depreciating guy. Here's a photo of Luke and my wife Heather at a NAMM show.

Anyways, as usual I have never heard of this fellow really. There really are more great guitar artists than there are ears to listen to them and know them all. I've looked up the album you're speaking of and here is a clip, a whole song actually for your radio like listening pleasure for those like me who haven't heard Steve Lukather's music.
