Default Chapman Stick -What is that?

The Chapman Stick - It looks like a Sitar to my eyes, looking at the website - www.stick.com I can see that it comes in 8 string, 10 string and 12 string varieties. The prices for these are comparable to good quality guitars to include the high end composite guitars, price lists are available at the stick site. It looks cool and there is a new Truefire course which would be a godsend for those who have purchased one of these instruments already or who are interested in getting one of these. This makes me optimistic that we'll eventually find the right person and right situation to provide some Truefire style Courses for some more traditional instruments like the Banjo and Mandolin - done with that fine player that and documentation that allows slower folks like me to actually follow what's being taught. Anyways, the Chapman Stick. Behold.

There's only one person who can answer that question better than others . The great Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel and King Crimson) , virtuoso bass guitar and Stick promoter (in fact I didnt know before that instrument till I heard Tony playing it)

and a bit out of synch killer Crimson song (with of course the Chapman stick)

I've seen videos but I don't know much about it. It has lots of strings that you tap rather than pick/strum. It always looks like the thickest string is in the middle. It sounds like there is a guitar side and a bass side and they both output thru separate cables.

Here's some free videos from TrueFire featuring Steve Adelson. Hold on to your hat.

    I'm so Poor

Lone Jack - (Latin inspired sound)

Adelson Stick Lovers - (Includes Cause We Ended as Lovers by Jeff Beck - Awesome! - Looks like he is in the Pigtronix booth at NAMM)

Constantinople - (check out the wierd lick at 0:22 where his right hand floats down the neck. Same Pigtronix Booth)

At the end of the video the Pigtronix dealer says (note: my comments are in green), "Whatever he plays on the Bass is coming out of here (implying it came out thru a cable probably into a Pigtronix footpedal) and modulating whatever he plays on the guitar. What you are hearing is cross modulation of the different effects affecting each other..."

Beatles (get your psychadelic on - I love the song She's so Heavy. Ever heard the Gales Brothers do that song?)

Jimi, that was an awesome find. I didn't realize it dated back that far.

That was an cool find Jimi, I'm listening to the guy play his version of Yesterday - on an instrument in 1974 that would have cost $550 bucks. That's a heck of a lot of money back then. And What's My Line? That's going into the wayback machine for sure. I don't think even Beboy remembers back that far. - But I do.

yeah nice find JCC.....I remember all album credits called it the stick (without Chapman's name) , and it was only Tony Levin who played it ,till new players came....it seems now it's called the Chapman Stick again.(maybe the inventor claimed to have his name to the distributors.who knows?).
