Sometimes there are beautiful, melodic solos in pop songs that we love and sometimes we tend to forget to mention : nice solos that would bring us cool ideas when arranging and composing. That's why I created this thread.
The first example is the nice solo from Blondie's Maria : a short but surprising one (at 3.15) that gives this nice song another dimension.

hey guys add your favorite ones too !:shades:

I don't really listen to much pop music, but one that does stand out is Orianthi's "According to you". Tapping in a pop hit!?! :wow:

Well that's weird - I watched that Orianthi video - who I've never listened to since I thought she would be like Taylor Swift and I thought - Why is she doing a Chippettes song for Alvin and the Chipmunks movie? That's how much I listen to 'modern popular' music. I look at the guitar books for 2009 and don't recognize a single song in them. That's fun.

And as for that Blondie song - I've been watching Blondie videos since seeing it. :siffler:

Lionel Richie - Hello

I haven't heard the song in years but I can still sing it note for note.

This is a classic, but listen this great idea: the guitar solo is a unison of acoustic and electric guitar. This beautiful idea was brought by the wizard producer Alan Parsons.(there are live videos of this song in youtube, but I wanted to bring you the beautiful sound of acoustic and electric, only to be heard in the studio version. (3.22 - 3.52 acoustic and electric.the rest is electric only 3.52 to 4.10).

What a great idea for a thread Roberto. I liked all of these and especially the one in Hutch's Maria Muldaur song.

Here's one by Phoebe Snow, who is a great player in her own right but has a guy (I don't know who he is) that does some really tasty things throughout the song. His solo starting about 2:35 is short but very sweet.

A great guitar solo hidden inside a mega-pop hit by the guys that shows us even pop stars have to double check their fly now and then. Eddie Van Halen on the original and I think Lita Ford on the European tour.

OK they were prog veterans..but this is definitely a classic pop song...It ends with a beautiful short solo by Steve Howe.
