soloing. According to Remler I should be playing a mm up 1/2 step from the 5 and then a maj scale for the 1. She talks about going up on the mm and then down the major scale. She also says that we will need to invent these riffs for ourselves. But she died 20 years ago. I am wondering if anyone has come up with a book or DVD of standard 5-1 riffs?

Hey Rich! you knew I was going to be the first one to answer this:

this book is quite cool for jazz primer:

http://www.amazon.com/Introduction-Jazz-Guitar-Soloing-Book/dp/0634009702/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1282330799&sr=8-2

I love this little book:
http://www.amazon.com/Jazz-Improvisation-Guitar-REH-Lessons/dp/0634033565/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1282330920&sr=1-1

and John Stowell will relase soon a Jazz Improvisation course in TF that will be really cool!

EDIT: I forgot this excellent book, quite recommended in the jazz guitar forum:

Yes! I knew. I was going to send you an email and ask you but I figured I would never get to 1000 posts by doing that kind of thing.

I am looking for a "50 2-5-1 riffs you must know" type of course.

While I have your attention, I want to learn how to sight read. Do you have a book for that?

This title is quite good too. Les Wise is a respected educator from GIT:

Thanks. I bought the Bebop Licks book, and also took a look at the first 2-5 video "50 jazz licks you must know". I'll let you know what i think. I am really looking for 5-1.

Good choice!! the Bebop Lick book is an update version of the clasic Bebop Bible which was an essential text for guitarists.

Vignola's video has a complete section of ii V I licks too check it out.
