Love slide playing? Looking for something past Duane? Think Sonny is the man (well, he is in his own right)? Behold David Tronzo: the guy they all call the master. Tronzo, as he's known, is pure downtown Knitting Factory excellence. What this guy does with a slide and quirky tuning that entails only his hi-E tuned down a whole step is breathtaking. If I had to pick ONE guy to study with it would be Tronzo without a blink of an eye. On top of his playing, he's an incredible human. Regardless, investigate his music and hear for yourself:

Trust me. There's WAY more to Tronzo than his avant-garde leanings. One the injustices in this world is the fact he's so under-recorded. He played me a solo arrangement of Mingus' "Reincarnation of a Lovebird" that I still get chills over.
