AYE would like to nominate Michael Angelo Batio. He is a shredder, and considered by some to be the best at it, but still not well known by the general public. I can only handle a little of this style at a time (sort of like habanera peppers, a little goes a long way), but I saw this guy give a clinic to a small group and his playing is amazing. Here is melody of everything from Pipeline to Crazy Train on an unconventional double neck guitar. He also has one with 4 necks.

He is ambi-phibi-dextrous so he can play with either his right or left hand above or below water. NO wait, he is just ambidextrous so only the either hand thing applies. Forget the water part.
Here he is in an instructional clip with him accompanied by Andy Aledort:

And a little more mellow is this one:

Hell yeah!!!

AYE!

That is such a great choice for a couple of reasons.
1) He seems to have a rather humble and nice reputation these days. Gives lots of clinics etc. I think Jeff Beasley has played with him, maybe Jeff can jump in.

2) He knows music theory and shares. I think so many shredders learn patterns but MAB has always seemed to me like some one who knows the reasoning behind the patterns and modes and how to fit them together.

3) Nobody, and I mean nobody plays like him (yes he is best in small doses or even better on video)

4) He teaches and shares his tricks and knowledge. Been doing guitar columns for years plus his own line of videos (which are kind of daunting).

A unique (and quite talented) guitarist, a musician and a teacher he is deserving of the recognition.

Love that first video....I bet Hendrix would have as well:Totally_j
