It all boils down to common sense. Also good quality cables make a huge difference, when I first started playing, I fell into the cheapest cable possible hole. Cheap cables suck the life out of your axe. another good way is a nice cap upgrade they only cos like £1.50 each but 400v caps make great difference. However I do agree with no3 as even the best of us forget that.

Thanks for the tips, but I was actually hoping for something a little more ground breaking. I think this article helps to reinforce good basic knowledge about how to tweak your tone, but I've seen similar ones, over the years. I thought maybe there would be something different. That said, good luck to all those in search of better tone. Keep your eyes, and ears, open!

Regardless of your current setup whether electric or acoustic - go for heavier pick, heavier strings, higher action, play loud - gain is for pussies.

torr71--- Your pickup pole pieces (the metal dot under each string) will have an actual screw for the pole piece... just tighten or loosen to taste.....

"With some pickups you can even adjust each pole’s height under the string"
How can you tell if you have this type of Pick-up and how do you do this adjustment,,,
Thanks
Peace

Very good list esp, I agree with Tammy, listen to who you are blending in with.
I also think that with multi-effect pedals you need to work at your sound and explore it more to understand how it is made up. Rather than picking a ready made patch that you don't know how to tweak to improve or just change.

Thanks a lot. Glad you liked it. I agree, it's hard to believe how many people sometimes forget this -- including myself sometimes!

Wow Corey this is fantastic. I truly love Number 3 - Listen to your BAND. It's imperative we remember to work as a GROUP even if we're a soloist as most lead players are. Wonderful post, nicely thought out and immediately applicable!
