Unless, of course, you are playing in an orchestra where part of the deal is a serious tune beforehand, but calling that a 'live gig' is probably stretching it :P

But tuning by anyone should be done one way - sensitively. Theres nothing that gives a shoddy muso away more then when he starts hammering his A or whatever at the same time as everyone else/loudly. Tune it, shut up, you don't need to check anything else.

You can *see* them tuning up, but you don't have to hear it. I took that to mean go offline. I prefer that anyway, not personally finding it very helpful to hear wavery notes blasting out over a club's noise.

It's okay to smile in a death metal band, not gonna make you look like a wuss, lol.

Overall these are pretty good, but common sense for most people that've been around the circuit a few times.

These are just general guidelines for a certain area of performance music. These certainly don't necessarily apply to artists who are the head act of a 10,000+ show. The impression I got was that they are for bands starting out in small venues with small crowds who may or may not influence where this band goes. If you want to be a dickhead, be a dickhead, but good luck getting invited back to the 'Coffeehouse.'

ALSO...... DON'T COUNT YOUR TIPS IN FRONT OF THE AUDIENCE. SHOVE EM' DOWN IN A CROWN ROYAL BAG AND COUNT THEM WHEN YOU GET HOME IN FRONT OF THE GIRL YOU PICKED UP. SHE'LL BE IMPRESSED THAT PEOPLE WOULD JUST GIVE YOU MONEY TO PLAY A SONG. Of course if you didn't make much dough, then you might need to learn the standard 250 songs that every soloist should know. I have over 4,000 tunes in my song list, but the requests that I end up playing about 250 tunes. OH BY THE WAY, HOW BIG IS YOUR TIP JAR? YOUR TIP JAR REFLECTS YOUR OPINION OF YOUR PREFFORMANCE.
