The Loog Guitar: A Revolutionary Guitar for Children?

The Loog Guitar: A Revolutionary Guitar for Children?

We here at TrueFire love Kickstarter. If you’re not familiar with the website, Kickstarter describes itself as “a new way to fund creative projects” and offers people the opportunity to raise funds from others or donate funds to others. When you donate, you choose from several levels of support and you get some reward based on which level you choose. The higher the donation, the greater the reward. We think it’s a brilliant model and a phenomenal tool for creative people who are in need of financial support. We are actually in the process of developing a Kickstarter campaign for a new product we are set to launch sometime in the near future, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated on that.

The Loog GuitarUntil then, we’d like to share with you an interesting project we discovered on Kickstarter called “The Loog Guitar” by Rafael Atijas. Essentially, the Loog Guitar is a starter guitar with just 3 strings intended for children, but usable by anyone. In fact, Rafael claims you can play ANY song on The Loog Guitar and even offers a recording of a song of your choice on the Loog Guitar in exchange for a $50 donation.

The Loog Guitar is not positioned as a toy. It is a real guitar, made out of real wood, that tunes, plays and sounds “amazing.” It’s not a downsized-replica of a regular guitar, but a guitar that has been designed from scratch with a child’s needs, comfort and safety in mind, from the fun shapes, the rounded corners, and the signature feature: 3 strings.

The Loog GuitarWe love 6-string guitars, but it’s true that sometimes they can be overwhelming for little kids and beginners. The Loog Guitar, with its 3 strings, makes it easier for kids to tune, play and listen to the notes they are playing. It is a more stimulating experience that allows children to play music right from the start.

But there’s more. The Loog Guitar additionally offers the child the opportunity to build his or her own guitar, with or without the help of a parent. We believe that building a guitar is an essential part of understanding and loving the instrument, and when you build your own guitar you inevitably develop a deep connection with it. That is why The Loog Guitar comes unassembled for parents and children to build at home (sounds like a great father/son activity!).

The Loog GuitarThe Loog Guitar is not only fun and easy, it is also convenient. You can start with the short-scale model, recommended for kids ages 6 to 9, and when the little player grows, you can replace the neck of the guitar without the need to buy a whole new instrument. Just swap the old short-scale neck for the new long-scale neck and you are ready to go. In fact, every part in The Loog Guitar is interchangeable and compatible will all models. In this way, you can get the triangular-shaped guitar, and if you feel like changing to the rectangular guitar, you can just buy the body, easily attach it and have a brand new looking guitar without the cost of a whole new instrument.”

Wow. While we believe there is great value in learning the good ol’ 6-string guitar at a young age, it’s hard to deny that this is an awesome idea and could be a great learning tool for youngsters who can’t quite grasp the “big boy” guitar yet.
