TrueFire at Soave: Day 3

20120501-150829.jpgIn spite of the weather calling for rain, the day dawned clear and perfect for a day of music and celebration. The commune was hopping with many performers taking the stage. Highlights were Davide Facchini and Anita Camarella who’s swing guitar and vocal performance was charming and a perfect complement to the day.

Beatlemania was the theme of the weekend with Andy Timmons performing many of his arrangements to Beatles favorites. Walter Lupi got down-right percussive with Tommy Emmanuel and the weekend’s anthem, Bella Soave, written by Tommy Emmanuel years ago after his first encounter with the festival, was given new life with both Tommy and Pedro Javier Gonzalez playing a duet in its honor. It was with bittersweet notes that they took the stage as this marks the end of the Soave Guitar Festival. Pierpaolo and Antonella Adda, who have worked tirelessly over the years, have decided that this was to be the last.

Artists, attendees and town-people alike shared the music and memories of Soave, which as proved to be in the words of Tommy Emmanuel, “the heart of music in Europe.” We will say “ciao” to Soave, but will hope that the music returns to its hills. Join Isabelle in giving props to the artists.–

Sunday morning dawned slightly overcast with a chance of rain, but it didn’t stop local music lovers from turning out en masse for strolls, bike rides, picnics, concerts, bubbles being blown, workshops and general hanging out under umbrellas listening to music and discussing the previous evening’s inspiring events.

Workshop highlights include Andy Timmons (sweet cat, monster player) who is releasing a new disc, celebrating the Bealtes’ Sgt Pepper Album. Followed by Massimo Varini (a badass player for sure).

The evening concert featured masters of the six string including: Roberto dalla Vecchia, Walter Lupi, Andy Timmons Band, Pedro Javier Gonzalez Trio and Tommy Emmanuel. See Monday’s video for the concert series. A rousing performance by Pedro and Tommy playing Sultan’s of Swing will leave you breathless.

TrueFire at Soave: Day 1

20120501-150829.jpgThis picturesque town will become home to TrueFire over the next couple of days. Saturday morning, April 28, 2012 kicked off the Soave Guitar Festival where we had TrueFire (lucky) staffers cover the event.

The sun was shining and spring was in the air as locals and internation tourists stormed the castle walls. Guitar and music lovers attended daytime workshops in a local winery including performances and educational segments in an intimate setting. Bermuda Acoustic Trio was rocking in at the daytime community center. Roberto dalla Vecchia and Pedro Javier Gonzalez were highlights.

The evening concert featured several diverse acoustic and electric acts: Luca Olivieri, Massimo Varini, Little Barrie, John Jorgenson Quintet and Tommy Emmanuel. See Sunday’s video for the event concert series. The medieval town just outside Verona hosts the festival, which is produced as a labor of love by Pierpaolo Adda.

The event also includes guitar expo and sales of new and vintage instruments in the town “commune” with Soave wine, espresso and gelato as the main staple. There was also a wedding on the scene – a local vineyard owner’s daughter got married (and doused) in good luck rice and a ride in a vintage automobile. Ah amore!

SXSW Performance Videos

submit to reddit

In you’re unfamiliar, South by Southwest (SXSW) is an annual event dedicated to showcasing great known and unknown musical talent. This year was the 25th time the Austin event was held, but it was the very first trip by TrueFire. Thanks our buds at Guitar Player, Bass Player, Electronic Musician, and Keyboard Magazine, we were able to secure some press passes, and we took full advantage. Between the four of us on the adventure, we probably saw over 100 different bands, and we got tons of photos and videos of just about every one. You can check out a couple of the photo galleries here and here (more photos to come). Watch the video below for a bunch of clips from about 25 different performances. We have so much footage that we haven’t even seen it all yet, but once we sort through it all we’ll be sure to share some more with you. Also be sure to check in over at Guitar Player, et al. for more. Enjoy!

SXSW

In our first post from SXSW yesterday, we promised you some performance footage from some of the amazing shows we’ve seen so far here at SXSW, and we finally got a little time to put something together for you. We have so much more footage and so many more photos to share, but there are thousands of bands playing across town and we’re trying to take in as much as possible (can’t blame us, right?). Here’s a couple short video clips from a selection of shows, including Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Graham Colton, Portugal. The Man, and TV On The Radio. Enjoy and be sure to watch it in full 1080p HD!

Every show we’ve seen so far has had incredible energy — it’s palpable. We want to share some of that energy with you, so check out these pics below. We’ll have much more to share with you soon, and you can view the full gallery here.
